What is the Martin Andersen Senior Center?
We operate a multi-purpose Senior Center to provide social, educational and recreational services for the seniors of Brevard County. We are a non-profit organization self-supported by program fees, membership dues and donations.

How did your center get its name?
Mr. Martin Andersen and his wife donated the property to the county for the purpose of providing a location for senior activities. Martin Andersen at one time owned and published the Orlando Sentinel. He was also influential in the construction of several of the major highways in central Brevard. Route 528 is officially named the Martin Andersen Beach Line.

How long has the center been in operation?
The first of our three buildings was opened in July of 1983. We have been serving seniors in the area for more than 30 years.

How many members does the center have?
We have about 975 members. The annual dues are $15.00. This helps to pay for the cost of our bimonthly newsletter, which is mailed to all active members. Included in the newsletter is a listing of our activities each day.

Do you have to be a member to participate in the activities?
Membership is not required in order to participate in the activities at the center. There is usually a nominal fee charged to participants. For instance, exercise class is $1 for members and $2.00 for non-members.

Do you have to call ahead if you want to come to an activity?
Most of our classes are open ended. Anyone wishing to participate just comes at the appointed time to join in the activities.

Do you provide transportation to the Center?
No, but you may be able to coordinate transportation with the County bus service, Space Coast Area Transport (SCATS) at 321-633-1878.

How many employees do you have?
Except for one part-time employee that does custodial work for us, we are staffed by volunteers. Our board members are volunteers, the hospitality staff is all volunteers and most of the teachers and leaders of our various programs are volunteers. We have about 40 volunteers and last year they logged about 7200 hours of volunteer time. They are a wonderful group dedicated to providing this service to our area seniors.

How can we find out more about your programs?
Anyone interested in more information can call us at 321-631-7549 or stop by the senior center and pick up a copy of our current newsletter. We are located at 1025 S Florida Ave in Rockledge.
